Heidi Fox, RN, MSN, SMQT, C.D.S.
Sr. Quality Improvement Consultant
Heidi Fox has nearly 40 years of nursing experience, including acute and long-term care, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society of Nursing.
In her early career, Heidi spent many years in hospital-based clinical settings building a strong foundation of nursing knowledge and patient care skills. This experience allowed her to serve as an adjunct clinical instructor for The Vermont State University Nursing program. During Heidi’s career, she became drawn to the challenges and dynamic problem-solving required to provide care for marginalized populations in difficult environments.

She took on roles of increasing responsibility and authority from managing a secure 52-bed dementia unit to serving as a Charge Nurse in the State of Vermont Forensic Psychiatric Care Hospital.
Heidi then became the Director of Nursing for the Vermont State Department of Corrections, overseeing the contracted clinical care of an average daily census of 1200 incarcerated individuals across 6 facilities. Heidi served in this role for 6 years, including during the Covid-19 Pandemic, leading a Rapid Response Team that won the Team of the Year award from the Department of Corrections in 2021.
Heidi also served as the Certified Director of the Americans with Disabilities Act for the incarcerated population and has experience testifying in State Senate Hearings, as well as in State and Federal legal proceedings.
In 2021, Heidi became a SMQT Federal and State Surveyor, specializing in Long-Term-Care facilities which had been a long-held career goal. Per Heidi, “I became a surveyor to understand the process, requirements, and rationale used during the survey process to ultimately return to the facility side and help those working so hard on behalf of their residents”.
